Research 1 - Front Cover



Layout

The most space taken on the page is the image of a rock band. This is given importance because it is the first thing the reader sees, which attracts their attention. Also this image is linked to the main story in the magazine and what is mostly inside. There are many visual impacts of the page. One of which is how the main heading is emphasised by bold and large font. The colour of the font contrasts with the background colours so it stands out and the text is aligned in the middles so the first thing seen is the text on the image. There is also a balance between the Images and the amount of text used on the front cover.


Image

There is the main image, and also smaller images showing what is in the special pages. These images are linked to the main stories introduced in the magazine. The main Image is enlarged and aligned to the middle of the magazine, this makes the reader see this image first, and they will instantly know what the story is about or what it consists of. The main mise-en-scene used is props and clothing. These show the genre of the music, in this case which is Rock. Also shows how rock music is portrayed and what it is about. In this magazine dark clothing is worn by the band but also the style shows what sort of genre in rock the band portrays. The colours used are very dark, showing the genre of rock, also there are contrasting colour such as red, which makes it stand out the specials headlines is shown as torn out paper, which portrays that the genre of rock is rebel like.


Language

There are many linguistic techniques used. One of which is exclamation marks this shows the emphasis of the word. Also they have used puns that relate to the genre and story. Also a rhetorical question is used 'Wish u were here?', it involves the audience and makes them want to read more on what the subject is about. The magazine is very informal showing that the audience is being spoken to directly. The 'K! AWARDS' subtitle is placed in the centre to show the reader the main topic that will be discussed further on in the magazine.


Genre

the genre is shown clearly on the front cover. The colours used are dark, such as black, grey, red, and the facial expressions on the band portray the genre of rock as they are showing aggressive and angry emotions.Also the font has a broken and smashed effect, also showing how rock is aggressive and 'hardcore'. Also the way the band is dressed represents the rock genre, which is what they wear in concerts and gigs when they perform.
